Exercise in describing people/characters

I used today as an exercise rather than to write a story.  He's four characters I came up with.

1.  She clutched the tattered book on her chest, running her fingers over the creased pages as if tracking an old friend’s face.  Every evening she retreated to a worn armchair by the window, lost in a word of words.  She turned the pages with a gentle reverence, her lips moving silently, and her eyes dancing with the emotions woven into the text.  As the sun set, casting a warm glow on her intent face, she was a solitary figure wrapped in the embrace of stories.

2.  He carried the dinner plates with a sense of purpose, navigating through the familiar corridors of the home. However, a subtle shift in his routine became evident as he bypassed the usual path leading to the dining room, opting instead for the route that led into his bedroom.  Susan, noticing this unusual choice, gently inquired whether he intended to enjoy his meal in the comfort of his room. In response, a soft smile graced his lips, his eyes momentarily reflecting a hint of confusion before he turned around, retracing his steps without offering a verbal reply.

3.  She walked into the crowded room, her gaze flickering to the corners as if searching for an escape.  When someone accidentally bumped into her, she stumbled, but quickly regained her balance with a practiced grace.  A nervous smile played on her lips as she reached for a glass of water on the table, her fingers brushing against the rim in a barely noticeable tremor.  It was clear that she was uncomfortable in the midst of the crowd, yet she pushed herself to engage in conversation, her laughter ringing out softly even as her eyes darted around, taking in every detail.

4.  The storm raged outside, rain lashing against the window, and yet he remained hunched over his desk.  Pencil in hand, he scribbled furiously on a sheet of paper, his brows furrowed in concentration.  Every now and then, he would pause, his fingers drumming on the table as he stared off into space, lost in thought.  The room was filled with discarded drafts, a testament to his relentless pursuit of perfection.  Hours turned into night, but he didn’t budge, determined to write about a character through action rather than description.
